Kemp, EMS Director and Kate Hawkins, Animal Control Officer for
Upton admire some of new animal response equipment donated by
Central Massachusetts Disaster Animal Response Team, Inc (CMDART).
The "duffle bag", includes items for handling small and large
animals. It will be kept in the response vehicle at the Fire Station
and is designed to be used by responders prior to a time when Animal
Control or other animal disaster responders can be deployed. CMDART
is working in cooperation with the Dept. of Public Health and towns
throughout Central Mass to help develop animal disaster teams to
plan, prepare and respond in times of large-scale emergencies.
CMDART offers introductory trainings on animal disaster response and
hope to hold one soon in Upton. March 29 and 30, CMDART will
host the Humane Society of the United States for a two-day, 15 hour
training in Emergency Animal Sheltering in Worcester. The cost of
the two day training is $60 and space is limited. For more
information, go to
